Water Filtration in Greater Boston & the South Shore

Clean, safe, great-tasting water starts with knowing what’s in it. Trust 1 Heating, Cooling & Plumbing installs whole-home and drinking water filtration for homes across Greater Boston and the South Shore, protecting your family, your plumbing and your appliances. Every recommendation starts with a free water quality test, so the system matches what’s actually in your water.

Why Should You Care About Water Quality?

Hard water leaves minerals behind every time it runs through your home. Over the years that scale builds up inside your boiler, water heater and fixtures and shortens their life. Sediment, iron and rust stain sinks and tubs, and chlorine changes how your water tastes and smells. Poor water quality can also be hard on your skin, your hair and even your clothes, while clean water means a more comfortable home and plumbing and heating equipment that lasts longer.

Chlorine in Massachusetts Water

Many Massachusetts towns treat city water with chlorine. It keeps the water supply safe, but it can leave your water smelling or tasting like a swimming pool. Chlorine also strips natural oils from your skin and hair, fades colors and wears out fabrics faster in the laundry, and can dry out the rubber seals and gaskets in your water heater, boiler and fixtures. When chlorine mixes with natural material in water it can form byproducts called THMs, which is one more reason many homeowners choose to filter it out.

Common Water Problems We Solve

Is your water cloudy or does it have an odd smell? Are you seeing orange or rust stains in sinks and tubs, white crust on faucets and shower heads, or soap that won’t lather? Dry skin, brittle hair and scale buildup on appliances are all signs your water could use help. Our team starts with a free water test, then recommends the right level of filtration for what we find.

Water Filtration Systems We Install

We offer three levels of whole-home filtration, so you can choose the protection and budget that fit your home.

Best: Trust 1 Ultimate Whole-Home Filtration System

Trust 1 Ultimate whole-home water filtration system diagram with sediment filter, X-Core tank, cartridge filter and reverse osmosis drinking water system

Our most complete system is built for homes dealing with city water, hardness, sediment, chlorine, lead or heavy metals, or anyone who wants the best possible drinking water. It works in four stages:

In-line sediment filtration removes dirt, rust and sediment as water enters your home, with a yearly flush and filter change. The X-Core in-line tank helps prevent scale and corrosion throughout your plumbing, and comes with a 10-year warranty and no service needed for 10 years. A cartridge filter adds another layer of protection against scale, with a yearly filter change. At the kitchen sink, a reverse osmosis drinking water system reduces chlorine, fluoride, arsenic, lead, mercury, chromium and other contaminants, with yearly filter changes and a membrane replacement every 3 years. Tank sizes are matched to your household, from 1 cubic foot for a family of four up to 2 cubic feet for larger families and higher water use.

The Ultimate system includes:

  • Supply and installation of all filtration listed above
  • All necessary copper piping for a quality installation
  • A bypass in case service is needed
  • Shutoffs to properly isolate and service the system
  • All necessary hangers and supports
  • Pressure gauges to keep full pressure with minimal drop and show when filters need changing
  • Support for future filter changes, and we change the filters for you

Better: Trust 1 Mid-Range System

The mid-range option gives your whole home sediment filtration and the X-Core in-line tank for scale and corrosion protection, without the reverse osmosis drinking water system or the extra cartridge filter. It includes the same copper piping, bypass, shutoffs, hangers and supports, pressure gauges and filter-change support as our Ultimate system. Filters run about $150 a year.

Good: Standard 3-Stage Whole-Home Filtration System

Standard 3-stage whole-home water filtration system installed by Trust 1 in a basement

Our standard system is a 3-cartridge filter housing mounted in an accessible spot near your main water line. Stage 1 is a 1-micron grooved sediment filter that captures dirt, rust and fine particles. Stage 2 is an activated carbon filter that reduces chlorine, taste, odors and other organic compounds. Stage 3 is a polyphosphate filter that helps prevent scale buildup in pipes, water heaters, boilers and fixtures. It’s designed for good water flow with minimal pressure drop, needs no salt or electricity, and helps your water-using appliances last longer.

Installation includes full plumbing connections with high-quality fittings, new isolation shut-off valves for easy maintenance, a securely mounted and supported housing, a full leak and pressure test, and a walkthrough of how the system works and when to change filters.

Water Filtration Cost

Most water filtration systems we install range from $2,000 to $12,000, or about $50 to $400 a month with financing. Your price depends on what your water test shows, which system you choose, the size of your home and the plumbing changes needed. You’ll see your options and pricing before any work begins.

We offer 0% interest options, no payments and no interest options, and longer payment terms. The application takes less than 10 minutes. See our financing options.

How It Works

Step 1: Get pre-approved (optional). If you plan to finance, you can apply ahead of time so you know your options.

Step 2: Schedule your free water test. One of our plumbers tests your water for chlorine, hardness and overall purity at no cost to you.

Step 3: Explore your options. Your technician walks you through exactly what’s in your water. No vague explanations, just honest answers and clear recommendations so you can make an informed decision.

Step 4: Clear, upfront pricing. Once we design the right solution, you get upfront, flat-rate pricing before any work begins. If any parts or services come with special discounts or warranties, we let you know right away.

Step 5: Installation. Most installs can be completed the next day, as long as the products are available. We come prepared with the right tools and parts.

Step 6: Tell us how we did. You’ll get a short survey by text or email. If something wasn’t perfect, we’ll make it right, because trust isn’t just in our name.

Related Plumbing Services

Scale and sediment are hard on water heaters and boilers, so filtration pairs well with a water heater or boiler replacement. We also handle pipe repair and plumbing repairs throughout the home.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do you test my water first?

Yes. We offer a free water quality test that checks for chlorine, hardness and purity, so we only recommend the filtration you actually need.

What’s the difference between whole-home and drinking water filtration?

Whole-home filtration treats all the water entering your house, so every tap, shower and appliance is protected. A reverse osmosis drinking water system filters the water at your kitchen sink for drinking and cooking. Our Ultimate system includes both.

How much does water filtration cost?

Most systems we install range from $2,000 to $12,000, or about $50 to $400 a month with financing. You see your options and pricing before any work begins.

Will a whole-home filter lower my water pressure?

Our systems are designed for good water flow with minimal pressure drop. The Ultimate and mid-range systems include pressure gauges so you can see the pressure and know when filters need changing.

How often do filters need to be changed?

Sediment and cartridge filters are changed about once a year. Reverse osmosis filters are changed yearly, with a membrane replacement every 3 years. The X-Core tank needs no service for 10 years. With our Ultimate system, we change the filters for you.

Does the system use salt or electricity?

Our standard 3-stage system needs no salt and no electricity.

How soon can my system be installed?

Most installs can be completed the next day, as long as the products are available.

Do you offer financing for water filtration?

Yes. We offer 0% interest options, no payments and no interest options, and longer payment terms. The application takes less than 10 minutes.
