Heat Pump Rebates in Braintree, Hingham & Norwood
Braintree, Hingham and Norwood each have their own town-owned electric company, called a municipal light plant. That means your heat pump rebates may come from your town, not just from Mass Save. The programs are run by Abode Energy Management, and the rules are different in each town.
Trust 1 Heating, Cooling & Plumbing is an approved contractor for these programs, and we handle the rebate paperwork for you.
Which Rebate Can You Get?
It depends on your town and how you heat your home today:
| Town | If you heat with gas | If you heat with oil, propane or electric |
|---|---|---|
| Braintree (BELD) | $750 per ton, up to $4,500 from BELD, plus Mass Save heat pump rebates | $1,250 per ton, up to $7,500 from BELD |
| Hingham (HMLP) | Mass Save heat pump rebates (not eligible for HMLP rebates) | $750 per ton, up to $4,500, plus a $1,000 whole-home adder and a $500 weatherization adder |
| Norwood (NLD) | Mass Save heat pump rebates | Whole-home rebate, whole-home zero-interest loan or partial-home rebate through Abode, plus 50% of weatherization costs up to $3,500 |
One ton equals 12,000 BTU of cooling capacity. Rebate amounts are set by each town and can change. Amounts above were checked in September 2026 on Abode Energy Management’s site.

How the Process Works
- Free estimate. We visit your home, confirm which program you qualify for and give you 3 to 5 heat pump options with pricing.
- Consultation or energy assessment. Hingham requires a completed or scheduled home energy assessment. Norwood whole-home and partial-home projects start with a no-cost consultation with Abode.
- Application before installation. We submit the pre-approval or incentive application before any work begins, where the program requires it.
- Installation. We install your system to the program’s requirements.
- Quality check paperwork. After the install, we submit the program’s quality check form with your invoice and photos.
- Rebate paid. Your town’s program reviews the paperwork and processes your rebate.
Equipment Requirements
- The heat pump must be on the NEEP cold-climate qualified product list
- Starting January 1, 2026, systems must use A2L refrigerant (R-410A systems no longer qualify)
- The outdoor unit needs at least 12 inches of clearance off the ground
- Whole-home projects need a room-by-room Manual J load calculation
- Braintree: cooling-only ductless units are not eligible
Every system we recommend for these programs meets the requirements for your town.
Heat Pump Installation Costs
Most heat pump installations we complete fall in this range, before rebates:
Average: $16,000
We install Bosch, Hisense, Mitsubishi and Bryant heat pumps. We also offer financing options.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get Mass Save rebates in Braintree, Hingham or Norwood?
If you heat with natural gas, yes. If you heat with oil, propane or electric, your rebate comes from your town’s program instead. Braintree gas customers can get both.
Do I have to do the paperwork myself?
No. We’re an approved contractor, and we handle the rebate paperwork for you.
Do I need a home energy assessment?
In Hingham, yes: a completed or scheduled assessment is required. In Norwood, whole-home and partial-home projects start with a no-cost Abode consultation. We’ll tell you what your town needs during your estimate.
Is there a loan option?
Norwood offers a whole-home zero-interest loan through its program. We also offer our own financing options.
Do older R-410A systems still qualify?
No. Starting January 1, 2026, only systems with A2L refrigerant qualify.
